Satellite phones offer a huge amount of added security when travelling into remote wilderness areas. Much of the Grampians/Gariwerd National Park doesn't offer phone coverage to normal carriers. It is highly recommended that when heading out in to less travelled areas; such as multi-day hikes like the Grampians Peaks Trail you carry some kind of emergency communication device.
Price includes rental of the handset. Any usage will be charged at $2 per minute for calls and $1 per SMS, billed after return.
- Note: Most emergency communication devices rely on clear line of sight to active satellites travelling overhead. Coverage may be challenging in deep gorges/valleys and under thick tree canopy.
