Personal Locator Beacons (PLB's) offer a huge amount of added security when travelling into remote wilderness areas. Much of the Grampians/Gariwerd National Park doesn't offer phone coverage to normal carriers. It is highly recommended that when heading out in to less travelled areas; such as multi-day hikes like the Grampians Peaks Trail you carry some kind of emergency communication device. PLB's have the ability to send a distress signal which will reach the relevant emergency services in the local area.
- Note: Most emergency communication devices rely on clear line of sight to active satellites travelling overhead. Coverage may be challenging in deep gorges/valleys and under thick tree canopy.
- PLB's should only ever be used in an EMERGENCY.
